Plenty of variety on this subject for you to have a go at.
What sort of needle is it? Sewing needle? Hand sewing, machine sewing, upholstery needle?Surgical sewing or injections? If it’s any of those, are you on the receiving end of it, or is it you that’s using the needle? For what purpose?
Then certain trees have needles rather than broad leaves… how might that prompt a story?
There’s a stylus on a record player, (or what used to be called a ‘gramophone’ – as my mum used to say, ‘Our Carol talks that much she must have been vaccinated with a gramophone needle!’).
There’s Cleopatra’s Needle – one in London and one in New York – what history they must have seen.
A needle in a haystack… pins and needles… the needle in a compass which shows you magnetic north… before computerised display dashboards, the needle in the speedometer or any other gauge… knitting needles… the spines of an animal such as a hedgehog or porcupine…

A needle match in sport….
And of course, to needle someone is to irritate or annoy them.
