Carol Carman’s Writing Club Prompt: A is for Art

This week – the prompt is A is for Art.

Now this could mean a work of art figures in your piece – a painting, sculpture, a performance…

Perhaps your character is the artist – the one creating the art.

Perhaps your story takes place in an art gallery – who could that involve? Customers, artists, spies, thieves, dealers, forgers, or perhaps someone’s going for a job in the gallery or it’s the setting for an illicit liaison…

But art is also defined as: Skill in doing something, esp. as the result of knowledge or practice. We say of some things ‘there’s an art to it’, or we talk about ‘the art of something’, e.g. the art of persuasion.

A practical pursuit or trade of a skilled nature, a craft; an activity that can be achieved or mastered by the application of specialist skills.

Then of course, there are things like the black arts, the healing arts, the magic arts…

And it can be someone’s name, e.g. Art Garfunkel

Let’s hear your stories, poems, pieces of descriptive writing connected to the word ‘art’.

Send them to louise.hulland@bbc.co.uk and we’ll read them at the next Writing Club on the 28th April.
