Carol Carman’s Writing Club Prompt: B is for Bottle

This week – the prompt is B is for Bottle

It could be just a bottle so things to think about:

What sort of bottle? What shape is it? How old is it? Is it intact, or broken? Is it worth anything?

Where is it? On a shelf? In a shop? Underground? In somebody’s bag? In an evidence bag? Who owns it – or owned it – if anybody?

Is somebody using it? What for? What does it – or did it – contain – pop, poison or prescription medicine? Is somebody getting rid of it? Why?

And of course, there’s literally bottling things, such as preserved fruit.

But then we also bottle things up, or say of someone – ‘they’ve got a lot of bottle’, or ‘oh, no, he’s bottled it’ when someone, particularly sportsmen, fail because of lack of courage.

Let’s hear your stories, poems, pieces of descriptive writing – it doesn’t have to be the complete story – as long as it’s prompted by the word ‘bottle’.

Please send them to louise.hulland@bbc.co.uk and we’ll see what you’ve come up with when we meet again on 12th May.
