Carol Carman’s Writing Club Prompt: D is for Date

This week – the prompt is D is for Date.

A few different interpretations for date…

A date as in 26th May 2025 or 1066 or 1941.

To date as in ‘to tell the age of something’ as in the timbers have been dated as sixteenth century.

To date as in ‘to not age well’ or ‘go out of fashion’ – it’s a lovely house, but it’s a bit dated.

And of course, to date as in ‘to go out with someone who may be a potential future partner or spouse’.

And let’s not forget the date – the fruit of the date palm – which a lot of people only used to see in those oval boxes at Christmas.

Think of all the compounds that date is a part of, such as up to date, out of date, blind date, start date, end date, save the date cards that people send out now for weddings…

Let’s hear your stories, poems, pieces of descriptive writing – don’t forget it doesn’t have to be the complete story – as long as it’s prompted by the word ‘date’. Send them to Louise.Hulland@bbc.co.uk and we’ll look at them at our next meeting on 9th June.
