This week – the prompt is L is for light or lights.
So you can have light as in illumination – ‘Put the light on!’
And think of what words can go before light to make different forms of illumination: daylight, moonlight… and also think about where the light is coming from – the sun, a bulb, a torch, a fire, a lantern…
It’s also another name for an opening in a wall or roof to let light in – fanlight, skylight…
Then there’s light as in a source of ignition – ‘Have you got a light, boy?’
And it’s used metaphorically – for example ‘In the light of new information…’
We talk about people being ‘leading lights’ in the world of such and such, or somebody might ‘see the light’ when they realise something, or someone might be the light of your life.
And of course, there’s the meaning of not heavy, or lacking or needing something. ‘I’m a bit light on such and such…’
We say things are light when they’re a pale version of a colour, as in ‘It was light blue.’
So, it’s the usual stuff – who, what, where, when, how and why?
Let’s hear your stories, poems, pieces of descriptive writing – don’t forget it doesn’t have to be the complete story – prompted by the word ‘light’. But it is only a prompt. If you’ve got something else that you’re burning to write about, then write about that.
Send them to louise.hulland@bbc.co.uk and we’ll review them next time we meet!
