The world is full of noise – some good, some bad, some irritating but necessary.
What kind of noise is in your story?
Is it the presence or the absence of noise that’s important?
Think about how you would describe it – or how you would describe whatever it is making the noise. Is it commonplace, or unusual? How loud or soft is it?
Should it be happening? If it shouldn’t, why is it? And if it should be happening but isn’t, what’s the reason for that?
What effect does it have – is it intriguing, unsettling, scary or horrifying? Is it reassuring, pleasant, joyous?
So, it’s the usual stuff – who, what, where, when, how and why?
Let’s hear your stories, poems, pieces of descriptive writing – don’t forget it doesn’t have to be the complete story – prompted by the word ‘noise’. But it is only a prompt. If you’ve got something else that you’re burning to write about, then write about that.
Send them to louise.hulland@bbc.co.uk and we’ll review them when we next meet on 24th November.
