We’ve all played with them, watched others play with them, seen them given or thrown away or bought them them in charity shops as well as toy stores.
Sometimes we can’t bear to get rid of them, because they represent so much of our growing up and the fun of our younger, carefree selves.
And some toys, very often dolls, can look a bit odd, or off, or sinister.
So, are your characters playing with toys, or fixing broken ones, or maybe even making toys, when something dramatic happens?
Of course there is another meaning: to toy with someone or something. We speak of toying with someone’s affections, or an arrogant sportsperson toying with their opponent.
What happens to whom, why, how, where and when?
Any story, poem, reminiscence sparked off by the word ‘toy’, please to louise.hulland@bbc.co.uk and we’ll hear them on the 9th December. And do remember, they don’t necessarily have to be full stories; if you’re writing something and you just want to send a part of it, then that’s absolutely fine.
