Carol Carman’s Writing Club Prompt: G is for Gold or Golden

This week – the prompt is G is for Gold or Golden

Plenty of opportunities with this prompt – golden opportunities, you might say…

There’s gold as in precious metal – gold bars, gold jewellery – new, antique or ancient, gold thread, gold teeth, gold filling, the gold earring that pirates are reputed to have worn to pay for their burial.

Gold as in the colour, rather than the actual metal – golden hair, gold picture frames, golden beaches, golden retriever; it’s also used in pub names, such as the Golden Star in Norwich and the Golden Lion in St Ives which used to be owned by Morecambe and Wise, who were pure comedy gold…

And there’s things like a golden wedding, golden syrup, gold medals, gold discs, gold standard, all that glisters is not gold, good as gold, heart of gold…

So, it’s the usual stuff – what, who, where, when, how and why?

Let’s hear your stories, poems, pieces of descriptive writing – don’t forget it doesn’t have to be the complete story – as long as it’s prompted by the word ‘gold’ or ‘golden’.

Send them to louise.hulland@bbc.co.uk and we’ll review them when we meet again on 4th August!
