This week – the prompt is E is for Empty.
You can go anywhere with this prompt.
What is it that’s empty? A box? A bottle? A petrol tank? A crisp packet? A water butt? A purse? A house? An office block? Someone’s soul? A safe? A cinema, where you’ve gone to watch a film and there’s nobody else there?
If it’s a container that’s empty, what is it that’s gone from it?
Why is it empty? Have things been stolen? Was it emptied – or drunk – by mistake, or deliberately?
Who emptied it?
Who’s affected by the fact that it’s empty?
Why does it matter that it is empty?
What’s the reaction to it being empty?
But it doesn’t have to be the main focus of your story, for example someone could be throwing away an empty chocolate bar wrapper on their way to do something else. It could be that someone finding their Christmas present box empty is just the start of a family drama.
So there’s plenty of scope for writing, and it’s the usual stuff – who, what, where, when, how and why?
Remember this is just a prompt for you. If you’re writing anything else, why not let us have a look at that?
Send your piece to louise.hulland@bbc.co.uk and we’ll review them when we next meet on the radio.
