This week – the prompt is F is for Face.
Face could also include facial and facing.
Obviously, you have the arrangement of features on the front of a head. But whose face is it? Adult? Child? Animal? Clock? Known to you or not? Is it in a photo, or an artwork or real life?
Our face is our front door to the world, so is it beautiful? Average? Ugly? Scarred? Flushed? Sweaty? Filthy? Bleeding? Hidden?
What is the face telling you? It could be literally, as in somebody speaking, or does it show something of how the person is feeling? Happy? Sad? Angry, disappointed, nervous, relieved? A face like thunder?
Make-up – we talk about putting a face on.
There’s face as in the side of something – a cube has six faces, mountains have different faces that people climb, we roam across the face of the earth, the railways changed the face of the countryside.
And of course, you have to face up to something, or face the facts, or face the music… or stand firm in the face of trouble.
Oh, and there’s a face-off in lacrosse, or face cards in a pack of cards.
Is someone trying to save face? There’s also typeface, coalface, facial recognition, face time, set your face against something… pull a face, put on a brave face… face painting… face mask… face value…
Do you say something to somebody’s face? In front of their face… in your face… the face that launched a thousand ships… your face is your fortune… keep a straight face… a face a yard long… a familiar face on the telly… baby-face… fish face… show your face… two faced… throw that in my face… stuff your face…off your face… if your face fits… shut the door in your face… fly in the face of reason… in your face… on the face of it…, face powder, face cream, face down, face first…
So let’s see what you come up with!
Remember your six honest serving men – what, why, when, how, where, who.
Remember this is just a prompt for you. If you’re writing anything else, why not let us have a look at that?
Send your piece to louise.hulland@bbc.co.uk and we’ll review them when we next meet on the radio.
