Poem: Heavy Metal Hero

Written to the prompt H is for Heavy

Heavy Metal Hero

I wanna be a heavy metal hero;

I wanna front a hard rock band.

I’m all done with rap

And all that pap

I wanna show I’m in command.

I wanna wear my hair all long and greasy;

Want it wild and thick and all that stuff.

I want it blond or black,

I want it down my back –

Had it neat and smart for long enough.

I wanna wear Doc Marten’s and black leather,

I don’t care if it makes me sweat.

I wanna tattered vest,

Tattoos across my chest

But I just can’t afford them yet.

I wanna play guitar like Eric Clapton

And stand there playing, cool as ice.

I wanna slip my stiffs

Round complicated riffs

But I ain’t quite mastered Three Blind Mice.

At the microphone my voice will be a foghorn;

You’ll never catch me being softly spoken.

I’ll be raspy and rough

And sound so hard and tough

At least I will do when my voice has broken.

I’m gonna be the one out in the spotlight,

Gonna wear that heavy metal crown

Singing loud and proud

To an enormous crowd—

‘All right then mum, I’ll turn it down…

I said, yes, all right, I’ll turn it down!’
