Poem: Jumping Frog

Written to the prompt J is for Jump

Jumping Frog

Jumping Frog woke up one sunny morn,

Stretched upon his lily pad and gave a little yawn.

He said to himself, ‘It’s such a lovely day,

I’ll hop off into town and so I must be on my way.’

He hugged his toy dog Spot goodbye

And set off on his travels underneath a clear blue sky.

Off he jumped towards the road,

Waving to his friends the fish, the dragonfly, the toad.

As he leapt past fields and streams,

He saw families on picnics eating chocolates and ice-creams.

As he hopped along the street,

He saw so many people and they all had great big feet.

Jumping Frog leapt to a nearby tree

Where sitting on a branch was a tiny Jumping Flea.

‘Hello,’ said Flea. ‘Hello,’ said Frog,

‘Why do you look so sad?’

Said Flea, ‘I’ve gone and lost my dog!’

‘I’ve got a dog that you can share,’

Said Jumping Frog to Jumping Flea. ‘Come on, I’ll show you where.’

So Jumping Frog and Jumping Flea

Hopped back to the lily pad, hugged Spot and had some tea.

And that is how this story ends

When Jumping Frog and Jumping Flea became the best of friends.
