This week – the prompt is A is for Attract, Attraction or Attractive
Obviously there’s attraction between people, but animals do some weird things to attract a mate.
Your story could be about trying to attract someone’s attention: in a restaurant, or to warn of danger (like in the Railway Children), or over the other side of the street. Yoo-hoo!
Advertising is all about attracting your attention.
A picnic will attract wasps and ants; rotting food attracts flies; flowers attract pollinators.
Opposites attract. And we’ve all looked at some couples and thought ‘I don’t know what she sees in him.’
Your story could be sparked by an advert for a job which attracts a salary of…
It could be set in a fairground – plenty of attractions there – or a tourist attraction.
And people or things can also attract criticism, ridicule, support, admiration or attention.
Don’t forget magnets: a child could be playing with a magnet; most people have fridge magnets; or your story could be set in a scrapyard where there are massive magnets.
So, who or what is doing the attracting? Why? Are they or it successful? If not, why not? What happens afterwards?
Or, the attraction could just be in the background of your main story.
Plenty to go at. So, it’s the usual stuff – who, what, where, when, how and why?
