Written for the prompt Q is for Question
A Blind Date? What Were You Thinking?
Why am I doing this? What shall I wear?
Do I have time to colour my hair?
What about nail varnish? Heels or flat shoes?
Dress, skirt or trousers? Why can’t I choose?
What shall we talk about? Where will we go?
Why am I bothered? Why didn’t I say no?
What if he’s awful? What if he’s shy?
What if the evening doesn’t fly by?
What if he’s boastful? What if he’s nice?
What am I doing? Why didn’t I think twice?
What if he’s sweaty, greasy or stinks?
What if he gambles? What if he drinks?
Should I drink soft drinks? Maybe one glass of wine?
What if his politics don’t fit with mine?
What if he’s not attracted to me?
What do I do? Oh, why did I agree?
What if he’s gorgeous? What if I blush?
What if I need to escape in a rush?
What if he’s perfect? Not perfect, but great?
Why did I get myself into this state?
Could that be him now? He doesn’t look bad…
I’ll give him a chance, and now, kids – he’s your dad.

Like this poem? Fancy buying me a cuppa? I don’t get paid for doing Writing Club, and I know that buying my books isn’t always feasible, but if you’d like to show your appreciation, you can do it by clicking the red ‘Buy me a cuppa?’ button and giving me a tip, you lovely person. The amount is up to you, and you don’t need a PayPal account to do it.
If you’d like me to come and give a talk to your group – I can talk about my writing and my work at the BBC, and I’ve got plenty of comedy poetry to keep you entertained – please email info@mccawmedia.co.uk
