This week – the prompt is B is for Ball.
What kind of ball is it? Is it a sports ball? That’ll take you from ping-pong to ten-pin bowling and all stops in between right up to those massive inflatable balance balls.
Is it to do with food? Cheese balls, puffball mushroom, doughballs, aniseed balls, silver balls on Christmas cakes?
Is it a ball of yarn or string? Is it scrunched up paper? Rubber bands? Fluff? A ball-bearing? Snowball? Eyeball? A marble is a ball of glass.
Is it a ball of fire? There’s a rare phenomenon called ball lightning. The Temptations sang about a Ball of Confusion. Then, of course, there’s canon balls and musket balls.
There’s not only football, but there’s the ball of the foot.
You can start the ball rolling, keep your eye on the ball, some people just won’t play ball… some people are on the ball, the ball is in somebody’s court…
The sign of the pawnbroker… three brass balls… Wimbledon – ball boys and girls, ball-point pen… ball pool for little ones to play in.
What’s happening to the ball? Is it being made or destroyed, or literally knocked out of the park? Is it being used to entertain a kitten or a dog? In a kickabout in the street? Who’s using it? Why? Where?
And don’t forget, people could be going to a ball, where no doubt they’ll have a ball.
Also it’s a surname – Bobby Ball, Lucille Ball, Johnny Ball…
Plenty to go at. So, it’s the usual stuff – who, what, where, when, how and why?
